Many are aware where Bryant Park is located (it abuts the New York Public Library) but fewer know the origins of its name.

In 1884 the park was renamed to honor the memory of William Cullen Bryant who was a newspaper editor and poet. Mr. Bryant had a home in Roslyn.

On Thursday night, Aug. 8, we had a combination of 112 children participate in swimming and theater events here in Mineola. Valley Stream swim team came to Mineola with their Mayor Edward Cahill. Our children represented us as spirited athletes with good will shown towards our guests. We want to thank Coaches Nicole Elefante, Mike Marotta and John Zeitcheck under the direction of Director Dan Kopetic and Assistant Director Susan Murphy for their efforts not only this evening but throughout the entire season. We also would be remiss if we did not thank the counselors who worked on this project, namely Nicole Adams, Alyssa McAree, Ashley McAree and Mark Scrager.

Later in the evening we were treated to a Summer Drama Presentation entitled "The Show Must Go On!" which was directed and originated by Nicholas Linnehan and ably assisted by Summer Recreation Director Suzanne Skaflestad.

The children who participated exhibited excellent thespian skills. All who attended greatly enjoyed the performance and we congratulate all of the children on a "Job Well Done".
