The summer is a time for relaxing, enjoying the weather and for many, vacation time.

Post 9/11, airline security is at its highest and I encourage all my constituents to travel without fear and hesitation. As an avid traveler, I know that there are certain things you should never leave home without: money, a book and proper identification. International travel requires a passport. Forms for passports are available at most public offices and can also be found at the state department's website: http://travel.state.gov/download_applications.html.

On Aug. 19, fees for passport services are scheduled to increase. A study done by the Department of State found that the consular fees were not recovering the cost of the services provided. The fee for first-time passport applications for Americans age 16 and above, will increase from $60 to $85 and the fee for those under age 16 will increase from $40 to $70. Passport renewals will increase from $40 to $55. The cost of expediting a passport will increase from $35 to $60.

I wish you safe and healthy trips and travels.
