Did you ever consider what the source of the Hudson River is; the height of the highest water falls; and how many mountain ranges there are; or the number of New York residents who became president?
A lake in Hamilton County (Lake Tear of the Clouds) which is 4,320 feet above sea level is the source of the Hudson River which is 306 miles long.
Niagara Falls was constantly referred to when I was in school. I assumed it was the highest waterfall in our state. It only "drops" 180 feet. Taughannock Falls in the Finger Lakes Region is the highest falls at 215 feet.
The Catskill and Adirondack mountain ranges are known to most of us but the third range is not as well known. It is the Allegheny range.
Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt were New York residents who became president.
On Friday, July 26, at Memorial Park, the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra will perform for your enjoyment popular as well as light classical music.
Vocalists Jack and Ann Cassin will present selections from Les Miserables, Show Boat and songs by George Gershwin. Admission is free to this event. Please bring chairs and it would be appreciated if all arrived before the 8 o'clock starting time.
If it is raining the concert will be performed at the Mineola Middle School on Emory Road.
The population of our village was 3,016 in 1920. It increased (almost twofold) to 5,214 in 1925.
One of the reasons for this increase could have been the availability of the fine homes in Mineola.
A 1923 Real Estate ad offered in Mineola:
* Eight rooms, two baths - $18,000
* Seven rooms, two baths, brick, garage - $17,000
* Eight rooms, one bath, garage - $15,000

The horrific events in California last week made me sick.
How one "human" being could savagely kill a young ,defenseless child is incomprehensible.
Children are gifts and it is regretful in today's society that we all must be mindful that there are vicious predators who target the young. We must keep a watchful eye when we are with our children and grandchildren.
