History has repeated itself. There has not been two champion teams since the 1970s when there were champs of the east and west ends of Mineola. This year, though, it is Mineola Chamber of Commerce and Total Security sharing the crown.
Mineola Chamber got hot at the right time, going 3-1 during the playoffs for its share of the crown.
Chamber played great defense throughout the playoffs, led by seven-year Little League veteran second baseman John Englis, catcher Carmine Sarno and seven-year veteran Robby DiBella, James Kelly and Kris Lorusso.
The strong pitching of Terry Mooney and Daniel Vojivodic and the timely hitting of Daniel Fitzgerald, Mike Magalhaes, Fred Usma and John Sullivan.
Total Security rolled through its games also with seven-year Little League veteran Frankie Lao leading the way. The strong pitching of Anthony Morias, Robert Sallie and Vincent Ruggiero was a major factor and was the good field and timely hitting of the McCann and Easton brothers.
Time ran out on the season, however. Due to weather conditions and vacation plan, the teams along with the commissioner decided to have a tie and name both teams Major League champions. The decision made 24 boys happy.
Mineola Chamber manager Ted Englis would like to thank his coaches John Fitzgerald, Terry Mooney, Sebastian DiBella, John Sullivan and all the moms who worked the stand. A special thanks to the cheerleaders and to Major League commissioner Jimmy Clarkin.
