The Board of Trustees of the Village of Mineola will hold a Public Hearing on July 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue to consider whether to adopt a local law electing a retirement incentive program as authorized by Chapter 69 of the Laws of 2002 for eligible employees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
At 7:30 p.m., if the Public Hearing has concluded, there will be a Public Meeting. The public is invited to attend both of these events.
Once again the Early Bird Adult Swim is a big hit at the pool. This program takes place every Tuesday through Friday from 8 to 9:45 a.m. This "quiet time" is ideal for our adult members to swim laps or take part in the aquacise classes offered at 9 a.m. About 30 members take advantage of these classes each morning. No registration is required for these classes. Instructor, Kim Servat, suggests arriving half an hour earlier to warm up.
On Friday evening, July 19, we will be hosting "Middle School Night" for all of our members entering grades 6 -8 in September. DeeJay entertainment will be provided from 8 - 10:30 p.m.
Snacks may be brought into the facility but you will need to provide your own folding tables.
Even the sweltering heat could not keep some of our "littlest members" from enjoying July 4 in Wilson Park. Park attendants were on hand to distribute patriotic sunglasses, stickers, head boppers and candy necklaces. They also assisted the children in making their own "Uncle Sam" to take home.
Tennis lessons are the hit this summer. Instructor, Bryan Eich, scheduled an additional class each week due to an overwhelming response at registration. Parents wishing more information about these free lessons should see Bryan at the Roller Rink.
The Arts & Crafts Program is well underway. This program is offered three times a week for children ages 4 and over. Class size is limited so registration is required each week. For information on upcoming projects and registration, please see Erin at the Roller Rink.
On Thursday, July 18, we will be hosting a "Family Skate Night" from 7:30 - 9 p.m. at the Roller Rink .All ages are welcome to join us for a summer night in the park. Remember to bring your own skates and protective gear.
There will be a Volleyball Tournament at Jones Beach State Park on July 27 and 28.
All entrants will receive a "Tournament T-Shirt" and there will be cash prizes to the first and second place teams in each division (4 & 6 Player Divisions). You may register at the Park Information office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On July 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Old Bethpage Village restoration will host a Civil War Encampment.
Uniformed Union infantry troops portray the events that would have occurred in an 1861 training camp. Musket firings, marching and drilling are but some of the activities that will be featured.
There also will be Brass Band Concerts, fiddle music and songs of the Civil War.

On Saturday, July 27, there will be an "Oldies Show" featuring the Cleftones, Bobby Lewis and others at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park.

An estimated two million Americans live with an irregular heartbeat. Although some abnormal heart rhythms are harmless, others may be more serious and require medical intervention.
To learn the latest information about the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms, community residents are invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital's Women's Health Forum.
Free lecture, "Irregular Heartbeat...Get Back the Rhythm" on Wednesday, July 24. The program will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m., at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola, at the corner of Second Street. Parking and the entrance are in the rear of the building.
Bussiema Ibrahim, MD, Attending Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Winthrop, will discuss the latest advances in treatment for abnormal heart rhythms, including implantable device therapies, ablations and medications. The discussion will include an explanation of the various arrhythmias, as well as their causes and symptoms. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
