This team had a great time this year. This is easy to do when winning but what came first, the team enjoying the game or the winning? I do not know the answer but this is such a good group of kids because they are enjoying themselves while they learn and play well.
Joe "LiL Bird" Reardon led the team in goal. Every time an opponent tried to mount an attack he turned them away. Joe had 83 saves while giving up a stingy 17 goals. He aggressively defended his crease. He sometimes reminded the coaches of the Islanders' Billy Smith. He was the best goalie in the league.
Michael "the goalie killer" Erhardt led the team in several categories most noteworthy were his 15 goals and 35 ground balls. Mike is a complete lacrosse player. The other scorers for the team are Peter "I scored lefty" Grannath, 9 goals, 3 assists, Nicky "take the ball from me and I'll slash ya," Grimaldi, 8 goals, 2 assists, Tyler "Lighting" White, 8 goals, Sal "the director" Magliocco, 4 goals, 5 assists. Sal also won 80 percent of his face-offs, Michael "I beat my brother Escobar, 3 goals, 2 assists, Billy crazy legs" Gerstner, 3 goals, T.J. "you can't stop me" Cristina, 2 goals, Joe "I have game Wengler, 2 goals, Bobby "I never give up "Port, 1 goal, and Danny "the creaseman McAree, 1 goal.
Scoring was spread out among 12 different players which shows pretty good balance, but does not quite tell the entire story. This team was so good that we were limited by the four goal mercy rule in seven out of the eight games. When this rule is in effect you must make three passes before you can shoot. Everyone agrees that this is a great rule but the point is that several players never had a chance to score because they were busy passing and not shooting. The players who worked well in the field, improved in playing ability and understanding but just missed getting their goals are Jay "Hittin' the goalie counts" Bartscherer, Nicki "I hit the pipe" Francini, Thomas "the faceoff man" Redmond, Joey "I can run" Romano, and Michael "I'm there Magliocco. Michael along with Nicki Francini and Bobby Port were probably the best defensive middies and were full of hustle in every game.
Great teams do not win championships without great defense. This team had the dynamic duo in John "the hitman Urbank and Brian the clearman" Williams. Whenever we needed the ball or to stop the other team these two were there. Jake "I can cover anyone" Scialdone and Jack "I'll cover everyone" Gorry worked in really well and had some very big games towards the end of the season. Andrew "most improved" Ines came on strong along with Nicko "I wanna play goal" Artoglou, Kevin "I almost scored" Carlin, and Michael "I have talent" Kopping.
All said and done it was a great season by a great group of kids. More can be said about every one of these kids but we are limited in space. The coaches Joe "I can still play Gorry, Tom "I gave Ritter all his goals" Grannath, Tom "cut the grass I can't see Ritterbush Steve the tranquil" Kalberer, Dave "I only missed one meal" Redmond and Mark "I ate the meal Redmond missed" Parendo would like to thank the kids and the parents for a great time and the generous gifts.
