The flap about the Pledge of Allegiance leaves me with only one comment, "God Bless America."

You see them from Roslyn to Mineola and all points between every single day. Bill and Florence Schlageter for years have been riding their bikes covering miles daily. The bicycling couple live in East Williston.

Elsie Tramtano, better known as Mrs. T, lives with husband Tom and son Louis on Beebe Road. Louis 16, is a junior fireman.

Jim Agnew of Garfield Avenue is lucky to be alive. He fell from a 40' ladder, sustaining a broken arm and two broken ribs. Jim is still getting around, although feeling a lot of pain, especially after he goes to bed.

That good-looking, new cashier at the Jericho Diner is Shannon Murphy of Mineola Blvd.

Herb Polack was the first person to jump into the pool this summer. Herb, a 40-year member of the pool, lives with his wife Mary on Violet Ave. Herb, by the way, celebrated his 80th birthday June 20.

Giacomo Ciccone is our highway superintendent. He and his wife Jean live on Westbury Avenue.

Trustee Jack Martins enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Portugal.

Dominick Calaci, who lives on Garfield Avenue with his wife Anne, is a retired cabinet maker. Dom has built, piece by piece, a replica of a German World War II sub. Nothing is store bought, as he fashioned each part. It is four feet long and is encased. It looks exactly like a sub used by "Eric the Raider." Eric Raeder was the German submarine commander and was often called "Raeder the Raider."

Julia Ricca of White Road enjoys her daily walks around the park area.

Betty Maier of Emory Road has served on the board of zoning and appeals for 10 years. She is a lawyer and was formerly deputy town attorney.

Peter Gollobin of the chamber of commerce recently returned from a trip to India.

* * * *

Rich Raad served four years in the infantry in World War II. He and his wife Charlotte have lived on Grant Ave. for 52 years.

Vincent Joseph Bonomi was born April 20 to LouAnn and Adam Bonomi. The happy grandparents are Robert and Cathy Seewaldt, owners of Roberts Men's Shop.

Tilly McPartland was born in Ireland. I'm of Irish descent way back, my ancestors coming from Derry about 1820. Both Tilly and I share a dream of some day seeing a united Ireland.

Doris Bezman of Jackson Ave. had a wonderful time at the Swan Club with the Golden Agers.

Those two attractive young women who work at Gee Wiz are Annette Fabrico and Melissa Basile. They both live on Holly Ave.

Father Tom Murphy, formerly of Corpus Christi, was lucky enough to have a ticket to a recent Met-Yankee game. He is now stationed in Shoreham.

Deacon Brian Mannix of the same church always delivers such good homilies.

* * * *

Village Justice John O'Shea tells us that for May there were 2,778 parking tickets issued and 168 summonses for moving violations.
