The Village of Mineola Offices will be closed on Independence Day, Thursday, July 4.

There will be commercial garbage collection however on July 4.

If your "normal" collection days are Monday and Thursday, your garbage will be picked up on Monday and Wednesday.

If your collection days are Tuesday and Friday, your collection schedule will remain unchanged.

Please note that there will be no collection of newspapers this week.

The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra will perform an outdoor concert at Memorial Park on Friday, July 5. The program, which will include popular light classical music and big band favorites, will start at 8 p.m. Joining the orchestra will be vocalists Jack and Ann Cassin who will perform songs from popular Broadway shows such as The Sound of Music, Jekyll and Hyde and other favorites.

This year there will be a special guest, Jia-Yi who is a renowned virtuoso on the harmonica.

The following evening, Saturday, July 6, Plaza Productions will be casting a live rendition of The Man From LaMancha. This show will be of Broadway caliber and you shouldn't miss it. The starting time will also be at 8 p.m.

Please bring your own chair and should it be raining the festivities will be held at the Mineola Middle School. You should arrive early to get a good spot. There will be light refreshments available and served at the park by members of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce at a nominal cost for your convenience.

The Board of Zoning and Appeals will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue regarding the following applications:

113 Westbury Avenue

Application for variance to construct a 7'9" wide addition to the east side of an existing one story roofed over open porch with insufficient front yard setback and to reconstruct the existing roof so as to create a third story where a maximum of two stories is permitted.

181 E. Jericho Tpke.

Application for variance to install a ground sign within the front yard with insufficient setback from property and insufficient height requirement.

At the scheduled meeting of the Board of Zoning and Appeals, reserved decisions from previous meeting will or may be acted upon. Plans and specifications are on the file in the office of the Village Clerk and may be seen during office hours by all interested persons. All those wishing to be heard regarding these applications will be given such an opportunity.

Mineola Library Young Adult Services will be having a "Young Adult T-shirt Painting evening on Wednesday, July10th from 7 to 8 p.m. Get into the swim this summer by painting your own aquatic-themed T-shirt. Bring a clean T-shirt and we'll supply the paint, brushes, stamps, and stencils. This evening will be open to young adults in grades 6 to 12. Register at the Reference Desk for this free program.

Family night will be held at the pool from 8 to 10:30 p.m. There will be a DJ for your enjoyment.

On July 4 at Wilson Park from 1 to 3 p.m. there will be free balloons, stickers and holiday crafts for the children.

Only July 18 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Family Skate Night will be held at the roller hockey facility in Wilson Park.

Protective gear is required for all those who wish to participate in this event.
