Kiwanis 6 - Mineola Chamber 5
After a scoreless first, Chamber scores 1 in the second on a single by Mike Magalhaes, a walk to James Kelly and a hard liner back to pitcher Joe Spollen who knocked it to the ground and got Danny V. at first, but a run scored.
Kiwanis scored 2 in the bottom half to take a 2 to 1 lead.
Chamber cam back with 3 in the top of the third in a back and forth battle. With 1 out Fred Usma and John Englis singled putting runners on first and second. Both runners moved up on steals. Mike Magalhaes then doubled both home. Mike then scored on a pass ball. Mike also made two good plays behind the plate on pop-ups.
Kiwanis came back in the bottom with 4 runs. The big hit was a single by Zack Chichi. Chambers brought in Danny Fitzgerald to put out the fire, pitching 2 scoreless innings. Danny also doubled and scored on Terry Mooney's RBI single for a final score of Kiwanis 6, Chamber 5.

In a well-played game with a lot of hitting, Mike Brady hit his 4th homer of the season to power Katz to victory. Hitting stars for Katz were Robert Kruse with 3 hits, Mike Brady and Erik Vande Stouwe each with 2 hits. Matthew Siwiniski and Zane Kerney each had a hit. Mat played a solid game at S.S.
Mineola Chambers Danny Fitzgerald and Terry Mooney each had 2 hits. One of Terry's hits was a triple that scored 2 runs. Second baseman John Englis saw a lot of action, recording 4 assists and caught a pop-up.

In another close game played by the two teams, Astoria came out on top by scoring 3 in the top of the sixth.
The game opened up with Astoria loading the bases, but the defense of Chambers came through again not allowing a run. John Sullivan got the last out fielding a hard hit grounded by Joey Wellbrock and just getting him at first.
In the bottom of the first, Danny Fitzgerald doubled and scored on a double by Terry Mooney. Fred Usma followed with a single to score Mooney.
Astoria scored 3 runs with a big 2 out double by Chris Brostek. Tommy Flynn pitched a scoreless second and third to keep the game tied.
Chamber scored 2 in the 4th on a single by Terry Mooney. Fred Usma was hit by a pitch. John Englis and Mike Magalhaes walked to force in a run but could not hold the lead. Terry Mooney was 3 for 3. Danny Fitzgerald and Fred Usma each had 2 hits.
Chris Brostek had 3 hits and pitched 2 strong innings for Astoria.

Chamber's Bats came alive in the first inning of the 2002 playoffs. Leading the way was John Sullivan who was 3 for 3. Carmine Sarno had a double and a triple in route to the victory.
Danny Vaojvodic started for Chambers and gave up just 2 runs and struck out 6.
Kiwanis scored first on 3 straight singles by Roany Mello, Andrew Leno and Joe Spollen. Danny struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
The score remained 2 to 0 Kiwanis. With Chambers hitting the ball well but not scoring until the bottom of the third. John Sullivan led off with a single, Danny Fitzgerald singled, Terry Mooney walked to load the bases. Fred Usma then came through with a double to score 2. John Englis came up with second and third and he too doubled for 2 more. Mike Magalhaes then singled home English for a big 5 run inning. With the score 5 to 2 going to the bottom of the fifth, Fred Usma was in the middle of another rally. Leading off walk, Danny Vajvodic singled and Camine Sarno tripled both in. Camine just missed his first Little League homerun. Carmine has been swinging a quick bat the last two games. Short stop Terry Mooney was a little under the weather but teamed up with second baseman John Englis to record 7 assists, and first baseman Danny Fitzgerald was in on 11 plays at first.
