Gesslein, of Mineola, died on June 12, 2002. He was a graduate of Corpus Christi School, St. Dominic's High School and St. John's University. He served in the US Army in Germany. He worked at the Journal American and then as a public relations and sports director at LI University. He was a volunteer in the Emergency Ward and the Gift Shop at Winthrop University Hospital.
