Mineola Magic, the girls U-13 travel soccer team, played the eighth and final game of their regular travel season away against the Bellmore Hornets on Sunday, June2. The game started under a beautiful blue sky with a strong and blustery wind blowing towards the Mineola goal.

Bellmore took control early in the game, forcing Mineola goalie Kathleen Flynn to make her first save at 3:46. A few minutes later, at 8:36, Bellmore took another shot, which went wide. At 18:04 Kathleen made another save with a great low catch. At 20:04 Kathleen made another save that was kicked out of her hands and into the Mineola goal. The referee ruled "no score", because Kathleen had control of the ball before the Bellmore player kicked it. At 22:40 Kim Stillwell made the first attempt of the game for Mineola, which was saved by the Bellmore goalie. At 25:30 Kathleen made a difficult high blocking save. Following a corner kick, Kathleen made another save at 26:00. The first score came from a high and straight kick by a Bellmore player in mid-field at 27:35. The first half ended with Mineola down 0 - 1.

With the field switched and wind now blowing against Bellmore, Mineola had high expectations in the second half. Their hopes were quickly dashed when Bellmore widened their lead with a goal at 1:15 in second half. Nicole DeStefano took advantage of a great angle and made the first attempt of the half for Mineola at 6:21. At 8:10 Kathleen made a save for Mineola. At 10:38 Maggie Garcia's attempt was caught by Bellmore's goalie. At 14:55 Kathleen made another save. At 23:15 Allie Kain made an attempt that went wide by a very small margin. Mineola finally had success at 24:22, following a corner kick and after a furious skirmish in front of the Bellmore net, when Kim Stillwell made a powerful kick and scored. Bellmore's lead was now narrowed to 1 - 2. Kathleen made two final saves at 28:04 and 33:45. The game ended with Bellmore ahead 1 - 2.

Mineola's record for the season is 4-4-0. The following players should be congratulated for an exciting season: Katie Carter, Nicole DeStefano, Kathleen Flynn, Lynn Franciotti, Maggie Garcia, Maggie Hoban, Magda Jachowicz, Marisa Jetter, Allie Kain, Kelley LaRose, Grace Martorella, Christine McEnery, Kelley Munson, Jennifer Port, Kim Stillwell, and Julia Yan.
