There is a significant need for blood during the summer months. Volunteers provide "life-saving" service for accident victims, cancer patients and many others with medical problems.
If you are at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 lbs. and are in good health, you qualify to donate blood.
Should you have gotten a tattoo within the last year you may not be eligible. The American Association of Blood Banks requires a one year wait between getting a tattoo and donating blood because of the risk of hepatitis and other blood-borne diseases that can be transmitted during tattooing.
To find a nearby location to donate blood please call Long Island Blood Services at 1-800-933-2566.

These are not second-rate achievers yet few if any of us could correctly name all the "winners."
Why one asks...is our recollection of these achievers so easily forgotten?
Could it be that the people who really make a difference in our lives are the ones that care?
