They're called "The Golden Years," but challenges such as aging and illness often cause seniors to re-evaluate their lifestyles. However, these challenges can also present an opportunity to create healthy changes that can bring about renewed fulfillment. To learn more about creating a healthier lifestyle, seniors are invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital's free Health Update for Seniors lecture, "Changing Roles: Creating Healthy Lifestyles" on Wednesday, June 12.
The program will take place at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola and will begin with registration and blood pressure checks at 1:15 p.m., followed by the lecture at 1:45.
William Allured, Ph.D., psychologist, will address common changes as we age, and how these changes can present an opportunity to create a healthier self-image and lifestyle. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
Admission is free, but seating is limited. Pre-registration is suggested. For more information and to make a reservation, please call 516-663-3916.
Old Time Base Ball is another attraction at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. There are two "leagues"- 1860's Rules and 1887 Rules.
The Mineola Washingtons compete in the 1860 Rules and on June 9 at 11 a.m. are scheduled to play the Hempstead Eurekas.
Base ball in the 1860's was two words and the rules both in the 1860's and in 1887 were quite different - yet in many ways the same as the rules of today. Examples of some of these rules are:
