Barron Body Works 7, Mineola Chamber 4
The game was scoreless with Terry Mooney pitching the first innings for Mineola Chamber, allowing only one hit and striking out five. Barron scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run double by Matt Dadich.
Chamber tied it up in their half on a single by Terry Mooney and a walk by John Englis. Mooney and Englis moved up by stealing second and third. Terry then stole home and Mike Magalhaes singled home Englis.
Chamber scored anther two in the fourth on a walk to John Sulivan, following by a Daniel Fitzgerald single. Terry Mooney doubled then both home.
Barron took the lead in the sixth with five runs. The big hit was off the bat of Shawn Wachter, who cleared the bases with a double and also pitched well.
Mineola Chamber 10, Harry Katz 6
In a game played earlier this year, Mineola Chamber defeated Harry Katz 10-6. The score was incorrectly reported by the Mineola American, which reported the score as Harry Katz 6, Mineola Chamber 0.
K's Auto Repair stepped on the accelerator en route to two wins in the past week over Nassau Chromium and Mineola Bicycle. The team (4-3-1) is now in second place in a tightly contested Minor League division.
The Grease Guns gave the ball to rookie lefthander Luke Ruzek in his first career start with great success (no runs and four strikeouts in three innings pitched) against the Chromies. The offense was keyed by the foursome of Scott Mogavero, Nicky Franzini, TJ Winters and Jack Clarke all of whom went 2 for 3 and combined for seven runs in an 8-2 victory. Franzini closed the game on the mound with four strikeouts and no runs allowed in three innings. Joe Attard was perfect at the plate with a single and a walk and rocked the crowd with two steals. Andre Lobato and Ryan Timlin played an errorless outfield to establish the team's strong defense against the Chromesters..
Two nights later, the K Cars had their best offensive showing of the year. Danny McAree was the star with three for four at the plate with two runs scored and two innings pitched behind four strikeouts and no walks for the win. Emal (E-Mo) Rustemi had a perfect night in the box with two hits and three runs scored, a walk and a hit by pitch while also managing a hit saving grab at third base.. Michael Cerquiera had an RBI single while seeing his first action of the season in the battery. Amanda Hassett finished the game with a gutty performance on the rubber with two strikeouts in an inning and a third. William Luca gained his first career RBI while Eric Gettler found the basepaths in three of four plate appearances. The game saw a MAA rarity - two sets of brothers playing together. Both Alan Clarke and Ryan Winters were called up from the Farms to play with their siblings and improved the roster. Clarke scored two runs and while Winters walked three times and scored twice in garnering his first ever Minors RBI.
Kenny Eccher's Republican Club and Owen Kelly's Olympos Service Station played a spectacular 4-3 three inning nail biter on the Pool Field of the Wilson Park Complex last Monday evening. The game saw a ton of hitting and fielding and great baseball decisions.
Olympos got all their runs in the first inning with singles by Matthew Ines and Marko Lisonek in front of a solid two RBI double to the outfield by Bobby Kelly. Steven Clancy singled home the remaining run for the Getty Guys. Kyle Passarella and Ryan Winters chipped in singles while Anthony Franzini and Dean Saketos were thrown out on great defensive plays.
The Republicans were paced by Alan Clarke and Tyler Kapela but the big blast of the night was made by Stephanie Corleone to win the game. Solid performances were turned in by Javier Gonzales and Caique Mello throughout the contest. Matt Eccher was a rock behind the plate with his brother Ryan playing the mound. Michael Corleone and Nico Pantelides were outfielders of merit in a game that went right down to the last out.
Assistant coaches and managers remarket at how well played the game was for the first formal rules baseball of these young players' life. The boys and girls are receiving excellent instruction from the adults and had a wonderful time in a fulfilling conclusion to week by week basic skill development. More excitement is no doubt to come in the weeks leading up to the graduation game at year-end for many of these advancing athletes.
