Barnwell House of Tires, AKA the Cardiac Kids, won their second straight game of the season with an unbelievable 5-4 come from behind victory over a very tight game against K's Auto Repair. Barnwell jumped out a 3 to nothing lead in the bottom of the first on clutch, two out hits by Joe Hill and Joe Romano. In the top of the second, with the bases loaded for K's Auto Repair, Anthony Fabrico in relief of John Carlo Clancy, struck out the next three batters to keep the lead at 3-0. The game stayed that way until the top of the 5th when K's Auto Repair put two on the board.

Hanging on to a 3-2 lead, Joe Hill relieved James Pastoressa who had pitched an effective 4th inning and struck out the next two batters to temporarily douse the fire. In the top of the 6th, K's Auto Repair rallied for two more runs to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Barnwell's Cardiac Kids put on their rally caps. Brandon Lubrano started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Matthew Saketos followed with a clutch single. After a couple of stolen bases and a strike out, the tying run crossed home plate on a fielders choice by Anthony Fabrico. With two outs and the winning run on third base, Sal Massa stroked a single to centerfield to drive home the winning run, Barnwells record to 2 and 0 for the season. The was another great team effort!

Astoria Federal Savings 4, Harry Katz 1

Harry Katz took on Astoria Federal Savings this past weekend in a game which saw a pitching dual for the first two innings with Mike Brady striking out the side in both innings he pitched for Katz and Tommy Flynn striking out four in his two innings for Astoria Federal. Matt Siwinski led off the top of the third with a walk and would later come around to score on a sharp single by Erik VanderStouwe to give Katz a 1-0 lead. In their half of the third, Astoria would come right back with some heads up base running, as Joe Wellbrock worked out a walk and would go to steal second, third and home to knot the score at one after three complete. Mike Diglio came on to pitch the fourth and fifth innings for Astoria and was able to keep Katz scoreless with some solid defense. Gabriel Couto would come out from behind the plate to pitch the fourth for Katz and strike out two, but not before TJ Gessner would double and drive in a run to give Astoria its first lead at 2-1. Astoria would score two more runs in the fifth with timely hitting by Mike Diglio and Greg Klein, but Mike LaCava (hard throwing lefty) would come on in relief and shut down Astoria with a strikeout and soft groundout to second. Chris Brostek came in to close for the second game in a row and set the side down in order for 4-1 win to even both team's records at 1-1. Other notables for the game was a long double by Steve Petrillo for Harry Katz and some fine defense by Alex Lopes at first base for Astoria Federal Savings.

Barron Body Works 7, Mineola Chamber 6

Mineola Chamber opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first when Terry Mooney singled in Daniel Fitzgerald.

Nicke Genduso walked to lead off the bottom of the first for Barrons and scored on a double by Marc Cira.

In the second, Chamber came up with two runs. Fred Usma singled in Carmine Sarno and would later score when he stole home on a close play.

In the bottom of the third, Chamber came up with three runs. Terry Mooney doubled in Fitzgerald, who was 2-2. John Englis singed home Mooney and Usma singeld in Englis for a 6-1 lead.

But, Barron came right back with three runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-4.

Shawn Wachter came in for Barron and held Chamber scoreless, giving his team a chance to come back. Barron scored three times if the bottom of the sixth to pull off the 7-6 win. Matt Dadich was 2-3 for Barron and John Hinchcliffe pitched well for the victors.

Mineola Chamber 4, County Seat Kiwanis 0

Terry Mooney pitched a strong game from Chamber, going the first three innings and allowing only a double to Andrew Leno while striking out six. Daniel Vojivodic pitched the final three, allowing no hits while striking out six.

Fred Usma had a run scoring triple for Chamber. Carmine Sarno stole four bases. Kris Lorusso had a long triple and stole home. Daniel Fitzgerald was 1-3 and continued his solid play at first. George Chang pitched well for Kiwanis.

Minors

Mineola Bike Wins Second Game

The game began with Peter Granath walking and then stealing second and third base. Joe Calabro bunted the ball well but Granath was unable to score.

In the third inning, the Bike's bats came to life with singles from Bob Port, Dean Dombrowski, Jason Witt, Mike Candillo, Alexa Vojvodic and Billy Grestner scored runs. With help from Matt Clancy, who went 2-3, and Neil Hirani and Fernando Borrego, who also had a few hits, the solid defense of Nick Fabiano at second base and the excellent pitchign of Nick Conte, who struck out sic batters in two inning, Mineola Bicycle defeated Nassau Chromium 12-3.
