Tree Planted in Honor of Jack Hehman
To commemorate Arbor Day, the Village of Mineola planted a tree in front of the Mineola Historical Society headquarters on Westbury Avenue. The tree was planted in memory of John "Jack" Hehman, the former president of the Mineola Historical Society whose dedication helped preserve the history of Mineola.

The Tutor Time facility on Herricks Road has closed its doors due to controversy stemming from its location next to the Jackson Steel Superfund site.

Barnwell House of Tires, AKA the Cardiac Kids, won their second straight game of the season with an unbelievable 5-4 come from behind victory over a very tight game against K's Auto Repair. Barnwell jumped out a 3 to nothing lead in the bottom of the first on clutch, two out hits by Joe Hill and Joe Romano. In the top of the second, with the bases loaded for K's Auto Repair, Anthony Fabrico in relief of John Carlo Clancy, struck out the next three batters to keep the lead at 3-0. The game stayed that way until the top of the 5th when K's Auto Repair put two on the board.

Spring on Long Island brings with it mixed blessings and sometimes very rugged conditions for outdoor sports. Anyone who has tried to play softball, baseball, soccer or lacrosse in March and early April knows all about the elements thrown your way by mother nature. Somedays it doesn't seem fair. But, the games must go on, or you'll be playing into June to cover all the make-ups. The Mineola High School girls varsity lacrosse team has experienced the weather swings this spring, just like every other outdoor team. Earlier this season, the ladies has a game postponed because of bitterly cold weather.
