Mr. Mayor and village authorities, how about some enforcement of the no-thru trucking law on residential streets? Eighteen-wheelers go roaring down residential streets often ripping down overhead and cable wire.

Informed sources tell us that Maryann Warnecke, the former village trustee, will likely run against Mayor Colbert in next year's election. Maryann has a large following and so has Mr. Colbert. It should be an interesting race.

A young woman came to our door one day recently when Grace was home alone and asked my wife if she remembered her, as she used to live down the block when she was a little girl. She said her name was Christina. She said she just stopped by to see how Grace was doing and would like to come in for a chat about "old times." My wife, having no recollection of anyone by that name living down the street and who never lets strangers in, chatted with her through a locked storm door for a few minutes. She became suspicious when the girl was giving vague answers about her supposed family members.
At that point Grace realized that this was probably one of those scams where thieves seek to gain entrance to houses for the purpose of stealing money or valuables and sent the woman on her way. They usually pick on senior citizens as has been reported many times in the police report in our paper.
