For an Eagle Scout project, Mineola resident Joe Werther is planning to turn the 60 cement planters that the village placed in Mineola throughout the shopping areas on Jericho Turnpike, Willis Avenue, Mineola Boulevard, Station Plaza North, and Main Street, into beautiful flowering planters.

Fire Closes Restaurant for Nearly Two Weeks
Churrasqueira Bairrada Rodizio, the popular Portuguese restaurant, located at 144 Jericho Turnpike, reopened Friday after being closed for nearly two weeks as a result of a fire that occurred on March 30. The Mineola Fire Department responded to the fire that night. However, the restaurant received water and smoke damage.

Head Mustang Has Playoff Hopes
Mineola High School head boys lacrosse coach Mark Miller has hopes his team will be good enough to qualify for the postseason. That, of course, won't be determined until the dust settles on another challenging season. But, Coach Miller went into the season saying, "We hope to be very competitive and earn a spot in the playoffs." Miller has eight strong returning players from last year's team who should set the tone for the 2002 season.
