The Mineola High School girls varsity basketball team missed out on a chance to make the playoffs with some tough late season losses. The team finished 3-10 in Conference B-IV and was 5-13 overall. Senior Maureen Cloghessy and junior Kristen McNally were both voted All-Division honors by the Nassau County Girls Basketball Coaches Association. Cloghessy averaged 9 points and 10 rebounds per game. McNally averaged 10 points per game and scored a team high 155 points, 24 of which came from 3 point range. Senior Kristina Zunno was selected as the scholar athlete. The criteria for that honor includes a classroom average of at least 85 and the athlete also has to be involved in five activities. Zunno boasts a 95 average and is the Key Club president, Student Organization vice-president, a member of Increase the Peace, Teen Speak Out, and student athlete-leaders. Coach Denise Zunno presented "strive for excellence" T-shirts to Liz Diaz, Kristina Zunno and Nicole Tsabasis for their strong work ethic and team spirit. This squad graduates seven seniors, so the 2002-03 Lady Mustangs will be very young.

The Mineola High School girls varsity bowling team won its conference regular season title, with the highest average, series, and games in the league. The team also finished third in all of Nassau County. Senior Christina Schulze finished her career with the conference high average while junior Jennifer Pirrone was third. Schulze, Pirrone, and senior Lauren Anderson all had 200-plus games this season. Lauren Landy and Diana Crowe also contributed to the team's first place finish.

The Mineola girls junior varsity team completed its season with a win over Great Neck South. The team bowled its season high series and game. Jennifer Boyle bowled a 206, which landed her in first place for the high game in the conference. Coach Valerie Liese says, "All the junior varsity bowlers, Theresa Dolan, Jessica Petraglia, Allison Despirito, Hilary Singer, Diana Crowe, and Jennifer Boyle had a great finish to their season. Boyle finished second in the conference for high average and Crowe was third in the league for high game with a 185.

The Mineola boys varsity bowling team completed its season in 4th place in its conference and was seeded 15th in the county tournament. The Mustangs finished 13th in the tournament held at Garden City Bowl. Four of the boys garnered post-season honors. Sophomore Vito Errico and seniors Bryan Gallucci and Tom Aupied were named All-Conference. Eighth grader, Anthony Tretolo, competed his first varsity season and finished with a 192 average, which earned him All-County honors. Seniors Jeff Tavares and Brian Saks also helped the team to its remarkable turnaround from the year before.

The boys junior varsity bowling team finished its season in second place. Strong performances from Joe Tiseo, Mike Antoniou, Chris Williams, Louis Tramento, Ben Volino, and Peter Marson helped the squad win its playoff round over Carle Place. Marson , a sophomore earned the high-s*eries award on the final day of competition.
