'Are You at Risk? Breast Cancer as We Age'
Most women are familiar with the breast cancer statistic "one in nine." This startling statistic is a lifetime risk-meaning that one in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime-and that risk increases with advancing age. This is why it is important for seniors to learn what they can do to protect themselves against the disease. Seniors can learn more about breast cancer at Winthrop-University Hospital's Health Update for Seniors and Their Families'free lecture, "Are You at Risk? Breast Cancer as We Age" on Wednesday, March 13. The program will begin with registration and blood pressure checks at 1:15 p.m. followed by the program at 1:45. It will be held at the Mineola Community Center, located at 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola.
Arlene Sussman, MD, director of the Women's Imaging Services at Winthrop, will discuss the risk factors for breast cancer, as well as the latest techniques for early diagnosis and treatment. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer period.
Admission is free, but seating is limited. For information and to reserve your space, please call 516-663-3916.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue.

Toddlers are adorable, yet their behavior can leave parents frustrated and exhausted. The "Terrible 2's" can sometimes turn into the "Terrible 3's & 4's," adding challenges to an otherwise delightful time within a family's life. In an effort to provide support and give practical tips to parents dealing with toddlers, Winthrop-University Hospital's Parenting Today program will present a free lecture, "The Toddler Years: Common Behavioral Problems" on Wednesday, March 13. The program will begin with registration at 6:30 pm, followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Winthrop Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Blvd. in Mineola. Parking and the entrance are in the rear of building.
Jill Leavens-Maurer, MD, Deborah Messina-Tsotsas, DO and Sudha Prasad, MD, pediatricians from Winthrop Pediatric Associates, will discuss common behavioral problems in young children.
