Contamination Found at Koeppel Ford Site
A deal that would have sold the abandoned Koeppel Ford dealership on Jericho Turnpike to Chaminade has been squashed, at least for the time being, when it was found that there was a gasoline leak on the site.

It's Official - Three Candidates, Two Seats
Petitions to run for the two trustee positions and the position of village court justice are in. The 2002 Village of Mineola election will see three candidates - current trustee Linda Fairgrieve, Kevin Reilly and Jack Martins - vie for two trustee positions, the one currently held by Fairgrieve and the one held by trustee Maryanne Warnecke, who decided not to run for re-election.

Back to Back Victories Rally Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi's fifth grade basketball team had reached a critical juncture. Playing consecutive games on back to back days, the team faced must win situations against the top and bottom divisional rivals to maintain a playoff spot in the Nassau Suffolk CYO March Madness extravaganza. The Jekyll - Hyde nature of this squad led to a pair of wins from strange circumstances.

Mustang Thin Clads Race to County Finals
The reincarnated Mineola High School track team finished off a fine season, the school's first track contingent in more than two decades. Eight members of the team advanced to the Nassau County Finals. Three of them came home with top ten finishes in their events. Freshman Nicole Lapin placed eighth in the high jump. Sophomore Joe Stigliano nailed down a fifth place finish in the high jump. Senior Trumainn Thurmond was seventh in the 300-meter run.
