Village Trustee Maryanne Warnecke has confirmed that she will not seek re-election in March. A trustee in the village for over a decade, Mrs. Warnecke will finish out her term and will not take the oath of office for another term even though she would most likely have run unopposed.

"After giving the matter much thought, I have decided not to run for this year," she said, adding that she would reveal to the public her reasons sometime in the near future.

Mrs. Warnecke is a lifelong resident of Mineola and a third generation homeowner in the village. She is a registered nurse and managed to stay active in the village through her work as a trustee, member of the Corpus Christi Church and Girl Scout leader for Troop 1737/973. She also served on the Mineola Division of the American Heart Association and has been involved with the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Warnecke was appointed village trustee by former Mayor Robert W. Hinck, Sr. and has since been elected to five full two-year terms. As trustee, she has served as liaison to almost every department in the village. In 1991, she initiated and coordinated the first village flu shot program, which she turned into an annual event.

Mrs. Warnecke also advocated against illegal housing, proposing local laws to restrict the number of electrical and gas meters on the houses. She has advocated for a larger tax exemption for senior citizens and also initiated discussions that led to the construction of a roller rink at Wilson Park and a new playground at Memorial Park.

The Village Party has announced that Kevin Reilly, a 12-year resident and member of the village's pool/recreation board, will be the Village Party's nominee to run for trustee. The Hometown Party is not expected oppose Reilly and the Village Party is not expected to oppose Hometown Party candidate and current trustee Linda Fairgrieve, who is running for re-election.

Another candidate is John O'Shea, who is running for re-election as District Court Justice. Judge O'Shea is also expected to run unopposed.
