Corpus Christi sixth grade boys basketball team went .500 over the past week as they lost another close battle in their quest to make the playoffs 22 - 19 against a feisty St. Mary Team from Manhasset. Corpus Christi had a well balanced scoring attack, as seven players made it into the scoring column with Shawn Wachter and Steven Concalves each contributing with big baskets, but it was not enough, as they lost their first game in almost a month.

The boys came right back three days later with their highest scoring game of the season as they defeated Our Lady of Hope 43-36. This has become a hot rivalry with our neighbors in Carle Place, as every game played is an up tempo, fast paced battle. Again, as in this year's Holiday Tournament, OLH took the early lead, but Corpus Christi with its strong defense, came back with Jimmy Murtha and Tommy Flynn each scoring in double digits (14 and 11 respectively.) Michael Diglio was strong on the boards, added eight points and has teamed with Gabriel Couto to become a fierce duo in the paint. TJ Gessner had six points, nine assists and five rebounds, as his overall game continues to excel. Brendan Reedy and Frankie Lao have really come into their own this season, as they are controlling the offense and handling the ball with confidence. Alex Lopes played his most aggressive game of the season, as he defended against one of the best offensive players in the league and shut him out for the last three minutes of the game. Chris Brostek seemed to be everywhere on the court, first deflecting a pass and then getting an all important rebound in the defensive zone, then leading the fastbreak and controlling this high powered attack.

Corpus Christi is now 4-5 on the season and is within one game of the last playoff spot for the "B" Division, with three games remaining.
