The Mineola Junior Fire Department will again hold its "Pasta Dinner" at the Community Center, 155 Washington Ave. on Sunday Feb. 3, from noon to 5 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors and children and children under 4 are free.

With the popularity of physical fitness on the rise, we will be offering a six week Yoga course for all students of middle school and high school age. This course, geared for young adults, will teach the techniques of relaxation and dealing with stress.

The first meeting of the Mineola Fair Committee will be held on Monday Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at P.A.C.E., 302 Willis Ave. Volunteers are welcome to attend.
Recent advances in the fight against cancer involve a different approach that attacks the disease via targets. These treatments have shown promising results with fewer side effects. To learn more about the latest advances in cancer treatment, community residents are invited to attend a free lecture, "The Newest Anti-Cancer Therapies", on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The lecture is sponsored by Winthrops-University Hospital's Advances in Cancer Care educational series. It will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. The program will be held at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola, at the corner of Second Street. Parking and the entrance are located in the rear of the building.
Harry Staszewski, MD, Chief of the Division of Oncology/Hematology at Winthrop, will provide an overview of the latest treatment advances, including an explanation of various therapies such as monoclonal antibodies, the new signal transduction inhibitors and vaccine therapies. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
