Walter and Grace Weismantel of Florida, former residents of Roosevelt Avenue and the owners of the famous bakery of the same name, are a busy couple in Florida. Both Grace and Walter volunteer at the local hospital and Walter has joined an acting group. Walter also serves as a teacher's helper in the local elementary school where he teaches several subjects like reading.

Mary Madson of Hampton Street tells us that her daughter Rebecca was chosen by the Long Island Challenge program. She appeared on Cablevision's Channel 12 on Dec. 16.

Billy Delventhal, one of Anton Newspapers' general managers, is a friend of Nugent Cantileno Jr. of Beebe Road. This was a friendship via their kids' athletic endeavors.

What a wonderful spirit is displayed by Dan and Tom Flynn, who attend and participate at Mass at Corpus Christi almost every Sunday. In spite of his handicap, Tom likes and greets everybody with great enthusiasm.

Met Fran Dempsey the other day. She and her husband, former Family Court Judge Bill Dempsey, live on Latham Road. Their son William is an assistant district attorney in Nassau County.

A disappointing crowd of 76 people attended the Dec. 16 Advent Reading and Carols at Corpus Christi. The Nassau Pops and Mineola Choral Society drew an audience of 1,200 at Chaminade for its annual Christmas concert.

One day a while ago as I was leaving my house on Beebe Road, I absent-mindedly left my briefcase on the roof of my car and as I drove off, all my papers flew all over the street. Good neighbor Chiropractor Jennifer La Monica, driving behind me, stopped and helped an old man (me) retrieve all my papers.

Another fine gentleman we exchanged holiday greetings with was Bill Greene of Mineola. Bill is the local furrier, owner of Tsontos Furs and the only Irish furrier in captivity. he is also active in the Mineola Chamber of Commerce.
