Thanksgiving, Nov. 22
Village offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, in observance of Thanksgiving. There will be no regular garbage collection on this day, and no newspaper collection for this week.
The holiday collection schedule is:
Wednesday, Nov. 21 - Garbage collection for Monday and Thursday routes and rubbish collection for the entire village.
Friday, Nov. 23 - Normal garbage collection.
Senior Citizens, over 65 years of age, with incomes under $28,900, are reminded they must file their applications for a tax exemption before Jan. 2. Renewal applications were mailed out to previous filers on Oct. 1. Seniors, filing for the first time, should contact the Village Hall for an application.
Veterans, who have not filed with the village previously, but served in the Armed Forces during a period designated as a "time of war" by New York State, should call the Village Hall for a Veterans' Exemption application, which also must be filed before Jan. 2.
The Village Assessor will be in Village Hall on Saturday, Dec. 3 and 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, to assist anyone who has questions pertaining to either application. If you require any additional information, please contact the Village Assessor at 746-0750, ext. 222.
Please do not rake leaves into the street. Not only will these leaves clog street drains, they could ignite either by a catalytic converter or a discarded cigarette.

Our village will hold the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue.
