Mineola Red Heat, the boys U-16 travel soccer team, played a tough game against the Valley Stream Vipers on Sunday Oct. 21. It was a beautiful, hot sunny day and despite the low score, there was plenty of activity on the field.
Helder Mendes made the first scoring attempt for Mineola at 7:10 in the first half. At 12:23 Mineola goalie Kevin Franciotti made a save from a Valley Stream attempt. At 13:27 Anderson Osorio's attempt was blocked. At 21:17 Joao Sousa, assisted by Fabio DeOliviera, made an attempt. Kevin made saves at 22:50 and 26:41. At 28:07 Anderson Osorio made a very hard shot that went wide. Mineola drew a penalty for a push inside the box, giving Valley Stream a direct penalty kick, which was successful at 33:30. At 35:39 Mineola received the same opportunity and Vito Errico tied the game with a score from a penalty kick. The first half ended with the score tied 1 - 1.
Rodrigo Pinto began the action in the second half with an attempt at 2:06. Kevin Franciotti just barely made the save at 3:42 after initially bobbling the ball. At 5:28 Valley Stream broke the tie after knocking down the goalie and a few other defenders. At 11:29 Helder Mendes made an attempt from a corner kick. At 17:11 Valley Stream was successful with another penalty kick, increasing their lead to 3 - 1. At 19:00 goalie Kevin Franciotti was forced to leave the game due to injury and replaced by Jonathan Tucker. At 19:50 Jonathan made his first save. At 20:52 Mike Skaliotis made an attempt. At 23:05 defender Vito Errico made a great sidekick block to save a certain goal. At 28:02 Pablo Ventura made an attempt. At 34:11 Jonathan Tucker made another save. At 34:40 Anderson Osorio made another attempt. At 37:24 Pete Marsen made the final attempt for Mineola. The game ended with Mineola down 3 - 1.
