With parking spaces throughout Mineola and Winthrop-University Hospital's main campus at a premium, Winthrop's new Staff Parking Garage on Old Country Road in Mineola is a sight for sore eyes. Symbolic of Winthrop's continuous growth and its consistent efforts to address the needs of the community-at-large, the new facility officially opened on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Accommodating more than 500 cars, the new Staff Parking Garage is also a welcome addition to Winthrop's many patients and visitors who now have use of their very own 534-car parking facility. The opening of the Staff Parking Facility left the Main Parking Garage on the hospital's main campus empty just long enough to be filled with patients and visitors. This parking facility can be accessed via the hospital's emergency entrance off Second Street and has been designated the Visitor/Ambulatory Patient Parking Garage.

Winthrop's new Employee Parking Garage on Old Country Road.
|
The new Staff Parking Garage, an attractive concrete and brick, three-story structure surrounded by newly planted grass, trees and shrubbery, is located just south of the Long Island Rail Road tracks and just north of Old Country Road between Fourth and Fifth Avenues and houses 630 employee parking spaces. The refurbished, glass-enclosed Rushmore Pedestrian Bridge that connects the new Staff Parking Garage to the Visitor/Ambulatory Parking Garage on the north side of the railroad tracks is also open for employee pedestrian traffic, making for an easy "commute" between the two facilities.
The new facility creates much anticipated additional space on the hospital's main campus for the growing number of patients and visitors, as over 600 employees will not be parking south of the Long Island Rail Road tracks. This will greatly ease parking congestion throughout immediate business district and residential areas surrounding the hospital.
