  • NEWS: State Standard Tests Just One Assessment

    The New York State standardized tests have become a subject for which there is a difference of opinion as to whether they can truly be a barometer for the quality of education taking place in a school district. According to Superintendent of Schools for the Mineola School District Dr. Lorenzo Licopoli, the tests are only one measure of many of where a student stands academically. However, Dr. Licopoli says that it is difficult to measure progress school districts are making from year to year because different students will take the tests next year. FULL STORY

    With parking spaces throughout Mineola and Winthrop-University Hospital's main campus at a premium, Winthrop's new Staff Parking Garage on Old Country Road in Mineola is a sight for sore eyes.   • SPORTS: Mischief Put Out Dragon Fire

    The Mineola Mischief faced off against the Manhasset Dragons for the second consecutive week in a U-10 Boys Travel game at Wilson Field. While the outcome may have been the same, the Mischief had to fight through sloppy play and a sluggish attitude to turn away the Dragons by a 2-0 score to stay atop their LIJSL division with an unblemished 4-0 record (6-2-1 overall).   • SPORTS: MHS Girls JV Soccer Notes

    In baseball when a pitcher is pitching a no-hitter, superstition compels his teammates to avoid talking with him about the game for fear of jinxing his chances to accomplish the feat. However, as a reporter for this team's accomplishments, my talking about the distinct possibility that this team will experience an undefeated season should have no effect on the outcome. As of this reporter the JV team's record stands at 11 wins and 0 losses. The JV team has beaten Manhasset, Glen Cove and Jericho once, and Mepham, Friends Academy, Carey and Long Beach twice. While their record is impressive, it is important to report not only the statistics, but about the character of this team and its coach. FULL STORY
