The invasion of the cell phone antennas into Mineola has not begun to cease, which may cause residents to ponder why Mineola appears to be such an ideal location for cell phone companies. Next month, the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees, will hold a hearing on two more cell phone antenna applications.
On Nov. 14, there will be a night of hearings that wasn't regularly scheduled. One hearing will concern a cellular phone telephone antenna application for 266 Maple Place. Another hearing will concern another cellular phone antenna application for 260 East 2nd Street.
The village had previously held hearings for cell phone antennas to be installed on 393 Jericho Turnpike by Nextel, 250 Old Country Road by Nextel and Sprint and a Verizon application to erect antennas on a LIPA tower near Betty Lane.
In addition, the board of trustees will hold a hearing on an architectural review law to set up a board of architectural review, which would be the village's planning board.
The prior week, on Nov. 7, there will be a hearing to designate three buildings as historical buildings. Those structures include the kiosk at Memorial Park, the concession stand at Wilson Park and the Mineola Auxiliary Police headquarters at the end of Walker Road.
These buildings will be considered for historical designation at the Nov. 7 hearing. Based on an historic preservation law passed by the village board, if a structure receives a historic designation following a hearing, no exterior alteration, restoration, reconstruction, demolition or moving of a historic site can be done without first obtaining a certificate of appropriateness from the board of trustees.
On both dates, hearings are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue.
