Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7 to the 13.

One of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones is to install smoke detectors. Smoke detectors, especially those in or about the kitchen area are often deactivated because they "go off" when cooking. Many home fires occur in the kitchen because burners are left unattended, pot holders were left too close to the burners, or other combustibles were misplaced.

Never, never deactivate any smoke alarm.
