Mineola Magic, the girls U-13 travel soccer team, won first place in their travel division during the Spring season and, as a result, Magic moved up to a tougher division and will face stiffer competition during the Fall season. Magic played their Season opener on Sunday, September 9th against the North Shore Wildcats at the Soccer Park in Plainview.

The weather was perfect and the competition was even better. The game began with a fairly even exchange of offense and defense and no serious scoring attempts until at 13:15 when North Shore took a shot on the Mineola goal. Mineola goalie Alyssa Glenn successfully prevented the goal with a great catch. The competition continued evenly until at 21:10 Kerri O'Connell, assisted by Marisa Jetter, made a serious attempt at the North Shore goal, which was blocked. Alyssa Glenn blocked two North Shore scoring attempts at 24:02 and 27:30. The first half ended in a 0 - 0 tie.

North Shore broke the scoreless tie early in the second half with a goal at 1:38. They came back at 5:13 with a point blank, line drive that was caught by Alyssa Glenn. Eager to win, Mineola forwards Kerri O'Connell and Allie Kain made attempts at 10:25 and 14:41 respectively. They were both blocked by North Shore. At 15:08 Mineola was finally able to tie the game with a successful high lofting kick from Katie Carter. The game was now tied at 1 -1. Not content with a tie, Katie, assisted by Allie Kain, made a serious attempt at 18:47. Katie came back at 22:22 and made another great attempt. At 29:09 North Shore made a narrowly missed attempt against Mineola. At 31:00 Lynn Franciotti made a good attempt for Mineola and finally at 31:55 North Shore made another narrowly missed attempt against Mineola. Despite all of the competitive activity the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
