Vincent John Mooney Jr., 57, of Fairfax, VA, died on Sept. 6, 2001. at Fairfax Hospital. He was the husband of Lala Suarez Mooney. Born on Nov. 9, 1943 in Mineola, he was the son of the late Vincent John Mooney Sr. and Martha Bowers Mooney. Mr. Mooney was a veteran of the US Army where he served as captain during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a computer programmer and analyst. He loved math and history, enjoyed traveling and learning about American history.

Surviving beside his wife are four children, Professor Vincent John Mooney III (Araceli) of Atlanta, GA, State Senator Alex X. Mooney of Frederick, MD, Patrick J. Mooney (Laurie) of Sterling, VA, and Margarita Mooney of Princeton, NJ; three grandchildren, Emily Mooney, Justin Mooney and Ryan Mooney, all at home in Sterling; four brothers, Professor Christopher Mooney of NY, Roger Mooney of NY, Professor Walter Mooney of Menlo Park, CA and Neil Mooney of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Martha Waltien of Bayside and Kate Mooney-Pryor of Brooklyn.

Arrangements were made by the Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Frederick. Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. George Kirk, 86, died on Sept. 11, 2001 in Winthrop Hospital. He was born and lived the early part of his life in Inwood, LI, where he excelled in athletics at Lawrence High School. He was a proud WWII veteran who served for four years as staff sergeant (Battery B, 246th Field Artillery Battalion) in the battle of Guadalcanal and the North Solomon and Philippine Liberation Campaign. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. A 50-year resident of Mineola, he wintered in Redington Shores, FL, for over 25 years with his late wife Helen (nee Bublin).

He was the youngest of three brothers who were NC police officers. He was appointed on Feb. 9, 1948 and served in the 4th Precinct, Property Bureau, High Patrol Bureau and the Emergency Service Unit. He reitred on Jan. 31, 1974. He was a member of the NC Police Benevolent Association, Police Square Club (past president 1953-54), St. George Association, American Legion Post #1050, Police Relief Association, International Police Association (Region 5), Association of Retired Police Officers, Inc.of NC (ARPO) and the Retired Police Association of the State of NY, Inc. He was an honorary member of the Detectives Association, Inc. He was a 61-year member of the Mason Lodge (Master Mason in 1940) and currently a member of Spartan Lodge #956, F&AM. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows (100F) and an Exempt member of the Inwood Fire Dept.

Loving father of George (Chris) and Jean and grandfather of Brian, all of whom live in Mineola. He was one of nine siblings and is survived by his sisters, Margaret DeGroot of Inwood, Marjorie Kittel of Mineola and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by the Meserole Funeral Home, Inwood. Masonic, Association of Retired Police Officers, and Fire Dept. services were held. Interment Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead. It was his wish that donations be made in his memory to the St. George Association Scholarship Fund, 1490 Franklin Ave., Mineola, NY 11501 or the Herricks Community Center, Attn: Diane Schmalz, 999 Herricks Rd., New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
