The Mineola Railroad Station was one of the earliest stations of the LIRR. It was built in 1836, the same year that the Jamaica Station was constructed.

In 1839, the LIRR built its first branch off the main line-from Mineola south through what was to become Garden City to Hempstead.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the LIRR is sponsoring a "One- Day Getaway" to the vineyards and an apple orchard on the North Fork.

You will have the opportunity to pick apples, shop in Greenport, and have a guided tour of Palmer Vineyard. After the vineyard tour, you can enjoy live music, take a hayride or relax on the deck overlooking the vineyard.

The train leaves Mineola at 8:29 a.m. and returns at 6:29 p.m.

If you would like more information, please call the LIRR at 822-LIRR, 718-217-LIRR, or 631-231-LIRR.

The MTA Long Island Bus has a website- www.mta.nyc.ny.us/libus/fares which discusses "Fares, Transfers and Discounts."
