The success of our summer programs in the parks and at the pool was due in large part to the efforts of the employees who worked at these locations.

For the 2001 and 2002 tax years, individuals may claim a credit for up to $250 of costs associated with each of the following:
1) Removing an existing unprotected residential fuel oil storage tank,
2) Permanently closing an existing unprotected residential fuel oil storage tank,
3) Purchasing and installing a new residential fuel oil storage tank.

Governor Pataki signed into legislation that provides for a permanent state sales tax exemption on clothing, footwear and other related items costing less than $110 per item.
The state sales tax was 4 percent.
When buying such items check your receipts to make sure you were not charged the State Sales Tax.

The Nature Trails at the Sands Point Preserve are open all year from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or sunset if earlier.
There are six marked trails through diverse habitats of woods, fields, pond and beach on LI Sound. Trail maps and a schedule of nature walks are available.

If you have a family history of cancer, are you at high risk? What can you do to safeguard your health? As part of its ongoing effort to educate the community, Winthrop-University Hospital will present a free lecture from its exciting new educational series, "Advances in Cancer Care" on Thursday, Sept. 13. The program, "Genetics and Cancer Risk: What Can You Do?" will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Winthrop Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Blvd. in Mineola, at the corner of Second Street. Parking is available in the rear of the building.
Jeffrey G. Schneider, MD, from the Division of Oncology/Hematology at Winthrop, will explain how you can define your cancer risk and explain options for testing. Jeanne Devine, MS, Cancer Genetic Counselor at Winthrop, will discuss the evaluation process for genetic testing. The lecture will include an overview of preventative options, as well as a question and answer period.
