After winning first place in their division last fall and moving up from Division 6 to Division 5, Mineola Red Heat, the boys U-15 travel soccer team, took first place in their division for the second year in a row. Last years victory resulted from an undefeated record. Division 5 competition was tougher this season. Mineola edged out Hewlett by one point to achieve first place with a record of 6 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. Coach Vito Errico and assistant Robert Franciotti were very pleased with the result of all of the team's hard work.

Throughout the season, Mineola scored 32 goals offensively, and had 26 goals scored against them. In the past three seasons, the team scored over 100 goals against their competitors. The official division standings for Spring 2001 are:
1. Mineola 6 wins, 1 tie, 2 losses, points 19
2. Hewlett 6 wins, 0 ties, 3 losses, points 18
3. Rockville Center 5 wins, 1 tie, 3 losses, points 16
4. Garden City 4 wins, 4 ties, 1 loss, points 16
5. Levittown 4 wins, 2 ties, 3 losses, points 14
6. West Hempstead 4 wins, 1 tie, 3 losses, points 13
7. New Hyde Park 3 wins, 1 tie, 4 losses, points 13
8. South Merrick 4 wins, 0 ties, 5 losses, points 12
9. Valley Stream 1 win, 3 ties, 5 losses, points 6
10. Farmingdale 0 wins, 1 tie, 8 losses, points 1
The defensive players were Vito Errico, Julio Gauto, Mark Lupo and Ramone Valente. Kevin Franciotti was goalie for the entire season and along with the defense did an effective job stopping goals. Playing midfield was Joao Sousa, Pablo Ventura and Carlos Upson.
Playing forward were John Boland, Fabio De Oliveira, Helder Mendes, Eric Moyano, Anderson Osorio, Luis Rosa, Mike Skaliotis.
Everybody played hard throughout the season and they all contributed to the team's success to make this another fantastic win for Mineola Red Heat. Although the competition will get tougher next season as the team plans to move up at least one division, Mineola Red Heat looks forward to making it a "three"-peat in the fall.
