On Friday, Aug. 6th, Lenny Cocco and The Chimes, Larry Chance and the Earls and The Happenings will perform at 8 p.m. at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park.

On Saturday, Aug. 11th, the Lew Picardi Orchestra will present a Salute to Vets at 7:15 p.m. also at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre.

If the weather on the night of the scheduled performance is "threatening" please call 572-0252 after 6 p.m. to determine the status of the performance.

In 1893 Bergen Mott Simonson purchased 70 acres of land and a large clapboard house, barns and out buildings for $16,000.

Thirty of these acres were on the north side of Jericho Turnpike between Marcellus and Emory Roads and 40 acres on the south side of the Turnpike between Emory and Marcellus, north of Garfield Avenue.

Bergen Simonson died on March 17, 1897, one week prior to the birth of their 13th child. His wife, Phoebe along with her sister Jane managed the farm until 1912 when it was sold to Paul Frank who subdivided it into building lots.

The MS Bike Tour will be held on Sept. 9th. It will start at Byron Lake Park, Bridle Way

in Oakdale. These "tours" are 20, 50 or 100 miles and explore the scenic splendor of the south shore of eastern Long Island.

Complementary approaches to healthcare have become increasingly popular during recent years, with reports about the benefits of various therapies piquing many women's interest. In response, The Women's Health Forum at Winthrop- University Hospital will present two free programs during August: "Chinese Herbs" on the 8th, and "Acupuncture" on the 22nd. Both programs will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7. They will be held at the Winthrop Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola. Parking is available in the rear of the building.

Yemeng Chen, L.Ac., a Certified Chinese Herbologist, will discuss Chinese herbs and their safety on Aug. 8. Liz Snow, L.Ac., a Licensed Acupuncturist, will provide an overview of acupuncture and Qi Gong, a movement exercise for healing on Aug. 22nd. Lori Ahern, MSW, CSW, Educational Consultant, will moderate a question and answer period for each session.

When an emergency exists at your residence, time is at a premium. When you call, of course you gave your address but regretfully, the responding service (ie, fire, police, and/or ambulance) are delayed because your home does not have numbering which is visible from the street.

Residents wishing to obtain a Mineola Leisure Pass may still do so by going to the Village Hall/Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue. The new hours, effective as of Aug. 1st, will be:

Monday & Friday - noon- 4 p.m.

Wednesday - noon- 8 p.m.

Sat & Sun - 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
