New York State permits a husband and wife to each deduct contributions to New York State College Savings Plan of up to $5,000 a year on their income tax return.

These "Plans" are of recent vintage - the earliest being established in 1997. The contributions to these "Plans" accumulate tax free and starting 2002, withdrawals from the state plans will be completely free of federal tax.

Unknown to most, it is against the law to transport a filled L.P container in the trunk of your car. It is better to place the container on the floor of your vehicle with the windows open. The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs assists employers in finding qualified workers age 55 and older. For information please call 572-0800.

Senator Michael Balboni is a member of the State Committee on Insurance. Recently he introduced a package of bills designed to cut down on auto insurance abuse and to stiffen penalties for insurance fraud.

One billion dollars, Balboni advises, is what auto insurance fraud costs New Yorkers every single year. That is an extra $115 on every auto policy in our state.

On Monday night at 8 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park, Andy Cooney and his band will perform. Also scheduled to appear are: Joannie Madden, Inis Fada Pipe Band, Ceol Na Croi Traditional Musicians and The Donny Golden School of Irish Dancing.

The Nassau County Senior Citizen Leisure Pass entitles senior citizens 60 and over to half-fare on all county operated buses at all hours, seven days a week.

On Saturday, July 28, starting at 11 a.m. a "Children's Festival" will be presented at The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park.

At 11 a.m. Janice Buckner with Ding Ding the Clown will perform. Sleeping Beauty will be performed at 1 p.m.

On Friday, July 27, at 8 p.m. there will be another concert in Memorial Park. Please bring your own chairs.
