Library Director Ahrens Resigns
Just when it appeared Mineola was settled with its library after a complete overhaul and renovation project, the village board accepted the resignation of director Carol Ahrens last week. Ahrens will work until August 17 and then depart to become the new director of the Farmingdale Library.

Mineola Mischief Make Mark In East Meadow
The Mineola Mischief made their travel team debut in the Rockin' Soccer Tournament at Speno Park in East Meadow sponsored by Stop 'N Shop and the Town of Hempstead. The squad, coached by New York Institute of Technology Soccer Alumnus Liam Wachter, played three games in a unique but enjoyable soccer format on the 14th of July. The three game tournament was played on inflatable barrier fields with no goalies and no out of bounds unless the ball was kicked above the ten foot high mesh walls. The team members also competed in skills competitions for shooting, dribbling and passing
Mineola Tornadoes Swarm Rockin' Soccer Tournament
The Mineola Tornadoes, an Under 8 year old MAA soccer tournament team, completed their first ever victorious streak in the Town of Hempstead Rockin' Soccer Tournament held at Speno Park in East Meadow. Coach Ann Forte had her troops drilled in an exciting six on six format played within outdoor inflatable fields on a beautiful July Saturday. The tournament was a twist on normal soccer rules with each team playing without goalies and the playing surface containing ten foot high walls forcing all balls to be in play at all times unless kicked outside the confines of the enclosures. The boys won two of three matches with all members contributing to the success of the squad.
