On Friday Aug. 24, from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m., the Suffolk County Branch of the Cooperative Extension will be holding a "Birding by Kayak." The fee is $30.
On Saturday Aug. 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. there will be a "Morning of Birding" on Peconic Bay. The fee is $30.

In last week's column I invited the public to attend the New York State Department of Transportation's Public Forum that will be held on Thursday, July 26, at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue from 4 to 9 p.m.
In preparation for the Public Forum you may wish to review "The Draft Project Design Report/ Environmental Assessment" which is available both at the Village Hall and the Mineola Public Library.

Session II swimming lessons will begin on Tuesday, July 17, and run until Aug. 3rd.
All those not accommodated in the first session will be given preference for this session.
The Swim Team, the Mineola Stingrays, will have their first competition against the Williston Park Swim Team at the Williston Park Pool on July 18th at 6 p.m. The first home meet will be against Floral Park on Wednesday, July 25, also beginning at 6 p.m.
All residents are invited to attend these meets and cheer our swimmers on.
July 27th will be Middle School Night at the pool. Musical entertainment will be provided from 8 - 10:30 p.m. for our members who are entering grades 6 thru 8 this fall. Bring your own refreshments.
Our village will be hosting the New York State Little League Championships from July 28th thru Aug. 1st.
The public is invited to attend theses games which will be held at the Little League Complex which is east of Willis Avenue, south of Searing and north of Second Street.

Thomas Albertson taking his pay in flour. The mill was operated by wind power..."
"The old Grist Mill with its giant wheel of many slats and louvers which were wired in a manner to spill the wind and thereby keep the wheel turning at a regular speed was built in 1847. The timbers were hand hewn and pegged together with oak pins and also hand forged bolts and hangers."
