Mineola Magic, the girls U-12 travel soccer team, played their final season game against Island Trees on Saturday, June 16. Mineola kept the ball on Island Trees side of the field for most of the first half. The Island Trees defense put up a good fight however and allowed only one goal at 15:48 by Katie Carter. The first half ended with Mineola ahead 1 - 0. The second half had plenty of action from both teams. At 8:02 Island Trees made a great zigzag passing play and a scoring attempt which was blocked by Mineola goalie Alyssa Glenn. Grace Martorellla's scoring attempt at 8:40 was blocked by the Island Trees goalie. At 9:44 Kim Stillwell made a beautiful high lofting kick that was deflected. Grace Martorella made another blocked scoring attempt one minute later. Kim Stillwell, assisted by Lynn Franciotti, made another blocked attempt. During the next few minutes Allie Kain made two attempts, one was deflected and one went wide of the net. At 17:40 forwards Kim Stillwell and Lynn Franciotti made a 2 on 1 breakaway against Island Trees with Kim successfully scoring Mineola's second goal. At 19:37 goalie Alyssa Glenn made a fantastic save that was partially blocked by defender Jennifer Port. At 23:28 Kerri O'Connell, assisted by Katie Carter, made it 3 - 0 for Mineola. At 25:00 Mineola goalie Alyssa Glenn, after shutting out Island Trees, swapped positions with forward Lynn Franciotti. At 27:23 Allie Kain scored the final goal for Mineola. The game ended with Mineola defeating Island Trees 4 - 0.
With an undefeated season, Mineola Magic wins 1st place in their travel division. Magic's record for the spring season stands at 7 wins and 2 ties. Coach John Munson, assistant coach Bill Kain and the entire team should be very proud of this achievement.
