Corpus Christi priest Father Bob Batule praised Protestant Evangelistic churches for their charisma and the way they joyously shout out Amen and Hallelujah during their services. He said Catholics are more reserved but should show their joy by saying the Apostles Creed loudly and in joining in the singing of hymns with a full-throated voice. Speaking of that church it was announced that a new priest, Father Paul Dolan, would be arriving soon.

Good to hear that Kathleen Mannix is improving from her recent illness.

Colleen Mary McCormack, age 6, enjoyed breakfast at the Jericho Diner along with her grandmother Teddy McCormack, Jeanne Lazar and Vera Barrick.

Kerry and Jeff Tice and 14-month-old daughter Mary of Wellington Rd. are enjoying the beautiful Mineola pool. Kerry, the former Kerry O'Neill, used to be the assistant manager of that facility.

A small dinner party was held at the Davenport Press to celebrate the 90th birthday of former Chamber of Commerce president John Lindner.

Lou Gagliano of Beebe Rd. is the fellow driving that flashy Chevy convertible around the village. Lou, a retired school teacher, is also an ardent jogger running almost daily while carrying weights.

Abe Lincoln had a good sense of humor. He was constantly besieged by office seekers. One fellow said to him "I hear that the chief customs inspector has died and can I take his place?" Lincoln said "It's fine with me as long as the undertaker doesn't object."

I have mixed feelings about a small family of geese returning to Memorial Park. The group which consists of mama, poppa and four goslings give the park a graceful country look but you have to be careful where you walk. Park looks good since the village has repainted all the benches.

Dominick Calacci of Garfield Ave, a retired cabinetmaker, has built a beautiful large scale model boat in his basement.

A huge crowd congregated recently in Fitzgerald Hall to bid farewell to Sr. Laura Helbig, principal of Corpus Christi School and Mrs. Joan O'Brien, director of religious education.

Tom Rudolph, a city cop, is a dyed in the wool Mets fan. Tom, who lives on Marcellus Rd. never gives up on his favorite team.

Jack Simon and daughter Beth Ullo lunched at the Jericho.

Dr. Mark Reiss is big into gardening and his gladioluses are a particular source of pride. A visit to the doc's office is always pleasant thanks to the two lovely ladies in the front office, Denise Arden and Kathy Frame.

Karen Smith of Beebe Rd. and son Conor along with visiting relatives from Florida enjoyed pizza at Cugini's.

La Cisterna Restaurant has a great deal going. They have a $12.50 lunch which includes soup or salad, choice of entree, dessert and coffee from Monday through Friday. Thus for a very modest price you can eat at one of the best restaurants on L.I.

Bill and Karen Wiley of Harvard St. Williston Park have a very successful mailing business.

Village Justice John O'Shea reported that 3538 parking tickets were issued last month plus tickets for 105 moving violations. There were also 147 summons issued for non-traffic infractions. Three trials were held and two warrants of arrest issued. Judge O'Shea is assisted by Richard O'Callaghan, acting village justice.

5th Army veterans of the Italian Campaign World War II embarked on June 20 for their 6th annual reunion tour of the battlefields of Italy. Led by Sy Canton of Anton Newspapers Advertising Dept., the vets and their families visited the American Military Cemetery at Nettuno for a special wreath laying ceremony: the Anzio beachhead, Cassino, Rome, Pisa, Florence, Bologna, Padua, Venice and finally Trieste. Next year a tour of the Normany beachhead area and Paris is planned.
