The Mineola Chiefs 5th grade team came up big this past Sunday with a huge win against Lynbrook. Playing at home, the Chiefs dominated Lynbrook from the first face-off, a particularly impressive feat since Lynbrook has a history of having very good lacrosse teams.

However, a confident defense and an offense that is showing signs of maturity propelled Mineola to a 6-2 victory.

The Mineola defense shutout Lynbrook for the first three quarters. Timmy DeLuca and Ryan Lee, who hasn't missed a beat, flanked Tommy Flynn, who was returning early from a finger injury. In goal, Patrick Delventhal didn't see much action but still came up with nine saves.

The Mineola scoring was done by Joey Lucien (3 goals, assist), James Tirone (2 goals), Michael Santandrew (goal), John Magiocco (assist), Anthony Marino (assist), Louis Corrao (assist), and Tommy Flynn (assist).

On attack, John Small, Brendan Reedy and Kevin O'Toole kept the Lynbrook defense aware of their presence. On midfield, Trever Landry and Sean Dowsett came up with more ground balls than the rest of the team combined.

Mineola will host Wantagh/Seaford on Sunday at noon.
