Sources around town tell me that the former Mahoney's Restaurant will reopen as a steakhouse. It's hard to realize that Mahoney's is gone after 50 years. We also hear that a Starbucks will open near the East Williston RR station. The old Grand Union store in Herricks Shopping center will be converted into a Buddist Temple, we are told.

Nassau County Museum in Roslyn had a wonderful exhibit "Napoleon and His Age." You could see the paintings of his victories over the Austrians and Russians at Austerlitz, Jena and Borindino, his ill-fated invasion of Russia, the burning of Moscow, the long retreat, and the final defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. Bonaparte's hat, pistols, swords and uniforms were also displayed.

Dave Miller, a man who has lived most of his life in Mineola, reminded me that Klein's 5 and 10 also occupied the building which now houses Churrasqueira Restaurant. Lou Klein and his dad ran that store for many years. There used to be leaks in the ceiling and they would have several buckets in various places in the store to catch the rain water.

A reader noted that our story about the Parkway Diner, which burned about 40 years ago, had it located in the wrong place. The Parkway was situated where the gas station is today at the corner of Jericho Turnpike and Glen Cove Road. The place where the Seacrest Diner is was just north of the station which at the time housed a Carvel Ice Cream Store.
