Village Board Adopts 2001-2002 Budget
The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees adopted a budget for fiscal year June 1, 2001 to May 31, 2002 last week that reflects a tax increase of $1.22 per $100 of assessed valuation from last fiscal year's budget. As a result, the typical Mineola homeowner whose home is assessed at $5,500 can expect a $67 per year tax increase.

Mineola Chamber to Purchase Community Clock
The Mineola Chamber of Commerce has decided to use some of the funds raised during the Mineola Fair to purchase a clock, which will be located in or about the Main Street area, scheduled to undergo a revitalization.

Mineola High School's veteran boys varsity lacrosse coach, Mark Miller, says his 2001 team has a great deal more depth than a year ago and he's hoping that translates into a better season and a berth in the playoffs. Miller has nine seniors returning from last year's unit. That includes the two top defensemen, Rick DiCandia and John Murphy. Additionally, goalie Pedro Oliveira will anchor the defense. Miller calls Oliveira a stopper in the cage. The Mustangs also have Paul Bispo at midfield.
