The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees adopted a budget for fiscal year June 1, 2001 to May 31, 2002 last week that reflects a tax increase of $1.22 per $100 of assessed valuation from last fiscal year's budget. As a result, the typical Mineola homeowner whose home is assessed at $5,500 can expect a $67 per year tax increase. FULL STORY

Mineola High School's veteran boys varsity lacrosse coach, Mark Miller, says his 2001 team has a great deal more depth than a year ago and he's hoping that translates into a better season and a berth in the playoffs. Miller has nine seniors returning from last year's unit. That includes the two top defensemen, Rick DiCandia and John Murphy. Additionally, goalie Pedro Oliveira will anchor the defense.
