While some believe report cards reflecting standardized test scores for New York State mandated exams do not reflect a school district's academic achievements, the Mineola School District met state standards and in some cases, exceeded the Nassau County averages.

Jackson Steel Superfund Site to Be Discussed
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) experts will be available on Monday, April 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mineola Village Hall at 155 Washington Avenue to answer questions from the public, as the agency begins its investigation of the Jackson Steel Superfund site.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Fund Raiser
Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Doreen Banks once again joined with Big Brothers/Big Sisters in participating in their Annual Bowl-a-thon in Mineola. Joining her was former New York Islander Clark Gillies and Ken Schwitz, former deputy receiver of taxes for the Town of Hempstead.

St. Aidan's Girls' Volleyball Team Heads Into Playoffs!
Congratulations to the eighth-grade team! It will be heading into the playoffs the week of April 22. The girls have worked hard all season and have improved with every game. The team consists of: Sarah Bancone; Juliet Barber; Joanna Cohen; Michele Guido; Katie Keegan; Amy Kemmler; Nicole Lapin; Erin O'Neil; Kaitlyn O'Neil; Lauren Raffetto and Christine Wall. No matter what the outcome of the playoffs is, the girls should be proud of their improvements and achievements.
