"Surviving Adolescence Together...Parents & Daughters"

Adolescence can be a wonderful experience, filled with self-growth and discovery as a young girl searches for independence. Yet it often creates conflict with the family. Parents and daughters can learn to understand this transitional period and grow together by attending Winthrop-University Hospital's free lecture, "Surviving Adolescence Together... Parents and Daughters: Keeping the Mind and Body Healthy" on Wednesday, March 28. The program will be held at the Winthrop Community Outreach center, located at 101 Mineola Blvd. in Mineola, It will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m..

Elana Kastner, MD, faculty physician, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Winthrop: Jane Swedler, MD, Chief Adolescent Medicine at Winthrop; and Sandra Wolfoff, CSW, North Shore Child and Family Center, will present a variety of topics geared toward young women. They will focus on the choices young women face, the pressure to succeed, and the role of the parent during this transitional time. A question and answer period will follow.

Admission is free but seating is limited. Pre-registration is suggested. Please call 1-877-559-KIDS to reserve your place.

Nassau County is conducting a real property reassessment. This process will include all commercial and residential properties, and it is anticipated that the project will take three years to complete. The "revaluation" is scheduled to be completed for the 2003-2004 assessment roll.

The initial stage of Nassau County's Reassessment program is expected to commence in our village mid March.

An excess of 415,000 properties will be photographed as the first step in the reassessment program. The photos taken from the curb will be linked through a computerized data base.

None of those involved in this project will at this time ask to enter your house. If any person does call 911.

If you have any questions regarding this project please call the Reassessment Hotline @ 873-9701, Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or visit the website www.mynassauproperty.com

This website has a section, "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ's), which is helpful in understanding this program. Some of the questions and answers are:

"How is residential property value determined"?

A residential property value is determined by collecting the characteristics of each property and comparing these characteristics to similar properties in comparable locations.

"Will the reassessment project impact my current senior citizen's veteran and/or STAR property tax exemption"?

Property owners who receive a senior citizen, veteran or STAR exemption will continue to receive the same percentage reduction in taxes as they are currently receiving.

"How and when will I be notified of my new assessment"?

In mid-late 2002, each property owner will be mailed a notice of their new assessment.

"What if I disagree with the value of my property"?

Property owners will have ample opportunity to have their valuations reviewed at informal meetings that will be scheduled over a six month period at locations throughout the County.

The American Liver Foundation's Annual "Liver Walk" will be held at Jones Beach State Park on Sunday, April 29.

If you would like more information please call 631-424-2555 ext.15.
