Corpus Christi Boys Fifth Grade Basketball Team returned to the friendly confines of their home gym (new backboards and all) with a 38-18 win over a fiesty Notre Dame team. Corpus Christi started slow, down by one after the first quarter. Tommy Flynn got Corpus Christi going in the second quarter scoring six of his game-high 16 points. He was on fire and could have scored even more if it wasn't for his unselfish play, noted his coaches. Jimmy Murtha followed that up with nine points as he consistantly produced both on offense and defense. T.J. Gessner was a force on the boards with 11 rebounds and four points. Michael Diglio again showed his strong inside game with five hard fought points. Chris Brostek, the quiet leader of this team, ran the offense with pinpoint passing as he amassed five steals and two points. Frankie Lao started his first game of the season and was impressive with his ball control skills. Alex Lopes scored again as he has done in five of nine games this season. Brendan Reedy came off the bench as the sixth man and contributed with some fine rebounding on both ends of the court.
A good time was had by all at the Harlem Globetrotters game on Sunday. It was great to see such a large turnout. Also, the last regular season home game will be Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. against a strong St. Peters team. Plenty of seating is available, so come show your support for your parish team.
