The Board of Trustees will hold a meeting on Wednesday, March 7, at the Village Hall 155 Washington Avenue. This meeting will commence at 7:30 pm. The public is invited to attend. As you are aware there is a shortage of blood. We will be hosting a Blood Drive at the Community Center on April 29th between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Nassau County Bar Association, 15th and West Streets in Mineola, invites the public to attend a free education seminar on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. entitled "Buying Your First Home."

The First Annual Syril Farber Walk will take place at Eisenhower park, near the Veteran's Memorial, in East Meadow on Sunday, May 13. The "Walk" will begin at 9 a.m.

The value of unredeemed US Savings Bonds that have reached "final maturity" and are no longer paying interest reached $5.9 billion in 1999.

The Bureau of Public Debt estimates it processes claims averaging $7,000 - $10,000 daily,

but acknowledges that it does little to track down owners' bonds that have reached "final maturity."

The key to claiming your monies are the serial numbers (Social Security numbers weren't added until 1974).

At year end 2000, the IRS reported it was "holding" $68.3 million owed $91,823 taxpayers an average unclaimed refund of $734.

Albeit that the amount of monies being held by the IRS regarding undelivered tax refunds is a considerable amount, it pales in comparison to the estimates of the amount of monies held because of uncashed refunds, 8 billion dollars.

Elise Belilos, MD, Director of Women's health program in Rheumatology at Winthrop-University Hospital, will provide an overview on the common types of arthritis that affect women. This discussion will include information about newer, as well as traditional treatments.
