Corpus Christi Boys Fifth-Grade Basketball Team completed its longest road trip of the season with two more wins, going 3-1 on this West Coast trip (west of Mineola!). Corpus Christi defeated a tough Notre Dame team 39-18 with Jimmy Murtha scoring a league high 20 points and Michael Diglio scoring a double/double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tommy Flynn added seven points and three steals as he continues to show what a complete player he is and Frankie Lao played his usual aggressive defense. Brendan Reedy, being groomed for a guard spot, made his first start of the season and ran the offense without missing a beat.
In the final game of the road trip, Corpus Christi beat St. Anne's of Garden City 36-18. This time, T.J. Gessner led all scores with 12 points, followed by Tommy Flynn with eight points. This game saw the return of Chris Brostek (Klondike Derby - second place. Congrats!) with four points and great ball control. Alex Lopes and Daniel LaMonica had breakout games, as they played with the intensity they show during scrimmage.
Corpus Christi will be returning home to face a second Notre Dame team at noon on Sunday, Feb. 11 to brand new fiberglass backboards, thanks to the tireless work of he CYO coordinator, Tom Rudolph. Also, a special thanks to Nancy Gessner who organized a trip to the Nassau Coliseum to see the Harlem Globetrotters for all CYO participants and their families.
